3rd Mod : Chasis stiffener - "Stiff Ring"

stiff ring washers
Front side washer (8 nos)
the washers are slotted in between the holding bolts and the gaps between the bolt hole and the chassis

View of the washer for the rear wheel (2 nos)

Please do not overtighten the washers

1. Immediate effect can be felt after installing these washers. the suspension felt more solid and comfortable over undulation.

2. this is because the chasis and the subframe has now become one unified body.

3. highly recommended for insight 2011.

4. these washers are replicas of a more expensive spoon rigid collars but works just about the same (at a fraction of the cost - USD 100 only).

2nd Mod : UltraRacing Front Strut Bar

New Upper Strut Bar
Being a hybrid car, fuel efficiency is the main idea. Stability, cornering and stuff, is thrown out of the window.

Well, the car isn't a performer when it comes to winding road, with tall centre of gravity, tayar sotong (squid tyre) with a width of only 185/55/16 (despite its 16inches rim, the rim width is so appalling), it doesn't even feel good to take a corner at a mere speed of 65km/h. Trust me, i have to lean myself to a side a bit if i am cornering.

The answer to all the predicament is a complete set of bracing bars at a predetermined spot. its like making the whole chassis frame more rigid to let it act as a unison body.

The first mod for this car in the handling department was this upper mount front strut bar. well, it isnt a strut bar because its not even bracing the strut mount itself but rather to the either side of the car body near the strut.

The feeling? an improvement during cornering. the car felt more stable when doing corners. on a plus note, the EPS of the steering felt more firmer than before.

However, please take note that this mod require a complete set of upper and lower mount bracing. with the absent of the lower brace, i can see that the car frame has "twisted" a bit with a gaping difference between the door panel and the fender panel.

1st Mod : K&N Air Filter

K&N Filter in place of the original filter
A sticker to warn of the "motorsport" element inside

The car was relatively new when i put K&N filter in, it only clocked 25,000 km to its record. I must say, everything was normal with the standard air filter. The filter is sufficient with normal style driving.

However, on highway or at high speeds, the car lacks pushing power, especially when the IMA won't really be assisting at high rpms, the car felt like its "out of breath".

By putting the K&N filter in (part no. 33-2433), the engine behavior drastically changed :

1. Acceleration is more pronounce even from slower speeds. At middle to higher rpms, the car felt "eager" to move.

2. VTEC sounded more livelier this time. Passing 4,500rpm the car surges forward with a loud "praaaang" sound.

3. FC wise, not much different if the driving style is normal, however, with high speed pushings, the fc may drop to as low as 16km/l.

One of the benefits of K&N is that its washable. It's cotton media must be washed with a proprietor cleaner kit from K&N and its relatively easy to do.

Thanks to K&N, now i have committed a traffic offence.
